  1. A note on batteries

Posted by Craig on 5th Dec 2011

The L5 is great, its an excellent torch to take on hikes and carry in your bag as the twist cap doesn't allow it to turn on by itself.

Reading another review on the site on batteries it must be noted that Led Lenser only design their torches to run on Alkaline cells. Rechargeables run on 1.2v, Alkaline 1.5v and lithium 1.7v. NEVER use lithium batteries in a Led Lenser torch it will burn the chip.

Rechargeables have a better run-down time at 1.2v and stay brighter longer. Most Alkaline batteries drop to 1.2v after a couple of minutes anyway.

If you really want to use rechargeables in the L5 or L6 take the plastic covering off the battery. I do that and it works like a charm.

    Thanks for a great product!

  2. Excellent product! but not a full 5 stars from me just because of one annoying fallback.

Very good value for money! Amazing light output power! Very sturdy body and exceptional build quality! Yet at the same time very lightweight and portable! :)

BUT ONE BIG DESIGN FLAW FROM LED LENSER:
The NiMH rechargeable batteries I have tested (Energizer, GP + Grandcell (2kmAH) ) don't fit!! The space tolerance inside the battery compartment is so little that they actually get stuck (It seems to me NiMH's are a bit fatter then the other types) - (I then had to drill into the back of my brand new NiMH battery to insert a screw and pull the battery out of the torch (and with a fair amount of force it was so stuck inside there) - I now just use non-rechargable Lithium batteries
I am disappointed in your R&D for that important aspect LED LENSER.

    so just 3/5 from me.
but still a very good product!

  3. Great little torch

I got my L5 a few days ago and must admit it has blown me away, this little torch with its single AA battery out shines my 4Dcell MagLite, not to mention it is way more compact. Only thing im not too crazy about is the need to have to twist the base to turn it on. Also it is a really good price for a good quality LED chip.
